If you are a social science or humanities scholar in Canada, at some point you are going to consider applying to the Social Science and Humanities Research Council for grant funding. In fact, you might feel pressure to do so from your department or your dean.
There are lots of people you can ask for advice: colleagues, the research office in your institution, or the program officer at SSHRC who deals with the competition you are interested in.
I have worked at SSHRC in the past and, since 2005, I’ve been helping Canadian academics with their SSHRC grant applications.
I’ve put together a series of short (3-7 minute) podcasts each addressing one question about SSHRC grants. Some of these came from coaching clients. Some came from subscribers to the series. I’m still taking questions, so if your question isn’t addressed, contact me and I’ll add a podcast.
You can subscribe to the series and receive every installment by e-mail one at a time, about 3 or 4 days apart and any new ones as they come out.
Or, you can select those that are particularly relevant from the list below. As new questions are added, this list will be updated.
Note: I sometimes abbreviated the question to make the e-mail subject line more manageable. If you click through, you’ll see the full title in the e-mail along with a link for the audio.

If you are thinking about applying and would like my help, I offer a range of other services from a $25 e-book to detailed comments on your draft proposal.
