The title reflects the fact that term starts on different dates in different countries.
For North Americans, the beginning of term chaos has largely settled down to the normal level of busy. You’ve got a lot to do but at least it happens in pretty predictable ways from here on out. No extra orientation meetings. No lost souls in the hallways.
Those in the UK are just launching into beginning of term chaos. Extra meetings; finding rooms; dealing with the inevitable timetabling and room booking hiccups; students who really aren’t sure where they are supposed to be… Madness.
There is time for you.
Or there will be once that first week or so is out of the way.
Not a lot. And it isn’t easy to protect. But it is possible to find time for your research and writing projects during term time.
In fact, it is entirely possible you could get an article ready to submit by the end of term. Or, make substantial progress on your book project.
Maybe you just need a little support
A Meeting With Your Writing puts writing in your timetable, just like teaching. You pay for the service, which helps motivate you to turn up and get the value you paid for. And you are part of a group, another strong motivator to actually keep your commitment.
I lead the group through a short exercise at the beginning of each meeting to get you focused and help you choose a task. Then you hang up and write for 90 minutes. At the end, we all check back in and celebrate.
Being in a group helps. It helps you keep your commitment. It helps you keep going through the difficulty of getting started into flow.
In the first week, one participant noted that immediately before the call one of those things that might have made her not write had come up and she had stuck with the commitment. Another said that the first 15 minutes made her think that this was going to be the longest 90 minutes of her life, and then all of a sudden an hour had gone by.
And if you are really stuck, I’m at the end of the phone line to help push you out of the mud.
Join us for the (rest of) term. 12 weeks from October 1 to December 15 for $95.
We meet Mondays for 2 hours starting at 10 a.m. Eastern/ 3 p.m. UK
